To Justine Merritt,

I am replying to your query for a lost person, which I saw on the Britain-Burma Society's Lost Relatives web page (http://shwepla.net/Misspers.mv). You said:

I am looking for any family members in Burma in the Tone/Htoon family. My grandfather Charles Edward Tone along with his wife, my Aunty and my father fled Rangoon during WWII to India. They later moved to England where my father met my mother and they then moved to Australia. I am looking for anyone related to them.

My great grandfather was Victor Tone and he married Margaret Clementine Jane Grant. They had 3 children Henry Alexander Tone, Helen Agnes Tone and Charles Edward Tone. These were all married in Rangoon and had children. We have been told that Victor had to change his surname of Htoon to Tone to marry Margaret. I can find no records for Victor.

I know Henry died in Rangoon in 1940. I have been told that Henry after divorcing from his first wife then had another partner Ma Baker and apparently had two children Douglas and Margaret Tone. Would love to hear from anyone that knows about this family.

Maybe I can help a bit.
