To George,

I am replying to your query for a lost person, which I saw on the Britain-Burma Society's Lost Relatives web page (http://shwepla.net/Misspers.mv). You said:

Can you help me? I am looking for my uncle, Harold Vivien McLEAN ("Bunny") who worked for 'Cable & Wireless' in Rangoon. My uncle married Eunice KIRK (the Kirks are a large family from Syriam) and they had two children (my cousins) Michael and Julie McLean who were born, educated and living in Rangoon.

My uncle's father (my grandfather) was William Alfred Richard McLean who was a civil engineer and the Public Works Officer. He was married to Marie (my grandmother) and the family lived in Syriam. They moved with their children (including my uncle (Harold), his brother (John), his sister (Kathleen ("Kitty") and his other sisters) to Rangoon before WW2 and the children were educated at St John's Convent School in Rangoon.

My uncle's brother, John McLean died in floods on the trek to India to escape the Japanese occupation of Burma during WW2.

I heard that the family may have had connections with the HAMILTON and BARRETT families originally from Syriam possibly as good family friends or through marriage?

I would be very grateful for any help in tracing my uncle (Harold Vivien McLean) and cousins (Michael and Julie McLean).

Maybe I can help a bit.
