To Nelly Hutchings (nee Court),

I am replying to your query for a lost person, which I saw on the Britain-Burma Society's Lost Relatives web page (http://shwepla.net/Misspers.mv). You said:

Can you help me? I am trying to trace more of my family's history in Burma before 1949. I was born in Moulmein in 1930 as Nelly Court (nickname "Chic"). My father was John Hilton Court of the Burma Railways and we lived in Insein, but variously also in Maymyo and Pyinmana.

John was married to my mother Sybil Roberts (married name Court) and her family came from Yamethin. I had a brother John Court Jnr, who was killed in 1947 in Maymyo prior to Independence.

I came to the UK in 1949 with my parents (as above, John & Sybil Court) and settled in London, along with my two sisters Joy and Maureen (Minx). Maureen moved to New Zealand with her then husband Des Watts in 1951-52 and still lives there (now with husband Kieran Nally). Joy and I live with our husbands here in the UK, having enjoyed stable lives with our children and now grandchildren.

If anyone has any information on the Court or Roberts family histories in Burma prior to 1949, I would be so happy to hear from you.

More information on my father John Court; he was highly-ranked in the Burma Railways as an Engineering Manager in charge of, amongst other things, the railway sheds. I would love to find out more information on him or any other links to our family. Many thanks in anticipation.

Maybe I can help a bit.
